Lesson Focus: All About Me - Create an artistic representation to go with the All About Me Prezi Presentation. Students create pictorial representations of their interests inside their self-silhouette. Timeframe: Three 45 minute periods "I can" statements I can create my silhouette which contains pictorial representations which describe me. |
Outcomes:
Students will explore and manipulate a range of materials and processes to create a variety of artworks that express personal feelings, ideas, and understandings.
▪ Create artworks, individually and with others, to express feelings, ideas, and understandings using various media, line, colour, value, shape, texture, space, form, and patterns.
▪ Create artworks for a variety of purposes, demonstrating influence from their personal, social, spiritual, cultural, community and/or physical environment.
Students will convey meaning by creating print and digital texts collaboratively and independently using imagination, personal experiences , and feelings.
· Label and define drawings to explain ideas/topics
Students will use a range of strategies to develop effective writing and media products to enhance their clarity, precision and effectiveness.
· Prewriting: talk about the ideas they plan to write about, draw pictures to develop ideas for writing
· Include information that is relevant and purposeful for an intended audience

Connection:
This lesson follows the lessons All About Me Part 1 & Part 2 and will be completed simultaneously with these lessons. . . . . . Half of the class will be creating their Prezi Presentations while the other half of the class will be working on their All About Me Art.
Mini-lesson:
Explicit Teaching (I Do)
After the I Do portion of the All About Me Part 2 lesson:
The teacher shows his/her graphic organizer example and a Prezi Example; showing the students how pictures and more detailed text enhances the presentation.
Say: You will now share your All About Me graphic Organizer with your partner and together you will make a Prezi Presentaion "All About _________ and ____________. After the students have had a chance to share their completed graphic organizer, with their partner; display the rubric on the SmartBoard and go over the expectations.
Give each group a copy of the assignment.
1. Show the class an example of the art assignment from Mrs. Brown's Art Class website on the SmartBoard. Tell the students that they are to use their graphic organizer and are encouraged to generate more ideas of what things are meaningful to them. Look at the graphic organizer example and ask: What pictures could I create to illustrate each of the items on the graphic organizer?
2. Students are told to use a pencil to draw their pictures in their silhouettes (drawn during All About Me Part 1 lesson). They are encouraged to practice their pictures on scrap paper before they draw on their silhouette.
3. Draw attention to the detail and the way that the pictures overlap in the example silhouettes.
4. The following day instruct the students to use coloured pencils to colour their pictures when they have finished drawing all of the pictures. When finished colouring outline the pictures with a black sharpie.
Independent (I do)
1. Students look at their graphic organizers.
2. Students use scrap paper to practice drawing their pictures.
3. Draw pictures in the silhouette with a pencil.
4. When finishedes divide the background into different sections.
5. Colour the pictures and background with colour pencils. Choose a different colour for each section of the background.
6. When finished colouring outline pictures with a black sharpie.
Time to Share
Circle time: End of each day students share 1 thing they have learned or one of their pictures.
Once everyone has finished their Prezi presentation and Art activity they will be presenting them to the class in the lesson All About Me Sharing and Reflecting .
Differentiation:
Students who have difficulty generating an idea for a pictorial representation of their interests or do not know how to draw an object may use a computer to do a google search for an image. They can look at the image while they draw their rough draft.

Make notes of observations in iPad app iDoceo
Students fill out self-evaluation
