Students will identify and describe the types of communities in Nova Scotia (Urban & Rural) and verbally explain how it affects the lifestyle of the people who live there. Where is Nova Scotia? Students will locate Nova Scotia on a world map and a map of Canada. They will be able to identify and locate the provinces and the bodies of water in the Atlantic Region |
Exploring Communities
Students will read non-fiction texts; Large Cities, Towns & Rural Communities. They will need to do analyze the text and do some inferring to fill out the graphic organizer about urban and rural communities. The focus is on the lifestyle of the people who live in these communities. Mapping Skills Students will learn and practice using mapping a variety of mapping skills. (Cardinal directions, map grids & map scale) |
Creating an Animoto Video:
Types of Communities in Nova Scotia Students will communicate what they have learned about the different types of Nova Scotia. Communities by creating a video. The video will contain images and text which will demonstrate their understanding. Digital Citizenship

All About Me Prezi Prezentation (Part 1)
Creating a Prezi presentation which describes each student: Students will work with a partner to generate ideas that describe themselves, and then fill in a graphic organizer. This graphic organizer will be used in the Part 2 of the lesson to create a Prezi presentation which describes each student. The students will present their Prezi to the class, along with their artistic representation and answer any questions. |

All About Me - Creating an Artistic representation
Create an artistic representation to go with the All About Me Prezi presentation. Students create pictorial representations of their interests inside their self-silhouette. All About Me - Sharing & Reflecting Each group presents their Prezi Presentations and their All About Me Silhouette Art. Students discuss how they contribute to their community based, on their interest, and write a reflection. |

Descriptive words – Part 1
Students read texts to find descriptive words and communicate how these words help the reader visualize the story. Students make connections and write a reflection. |

An introduction to generating good quality questions. |
Science: Materials& Structures
The students will learn how to conduct and write an experiment. The students will complete the experiment: How to build a stable structure. The purpose of this experiment is to discover how to create a strong foundation and a stable structure. |
